Welcome

Welcome

Dr Angel Adams

There comes a time in life when we feel the need to change old patterns and habits. I offer a positive psychological approach involving strength-based strategies for making life more fulfilling. My main approach is a combination of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and mindfulness. The goal is to help you develop and practice ways of rewiring thoughts, changing behaviour and coming to terms with overwhelming or uncomfortable feelings.

TreeMindfulness is being fully present to whatever is happening within you and around you, even if it is unpleasant. Instead of suppressing unpleasant experiences, mindfulness helps you to work through them. We don’t need to feel like we have to be happy all the time; the deepest happiness of equanimity grows with our ability to stay present and practice daily gratitude.

I care deeply about working with women’s issues (body image, eating problems and unhealthy relationships), offering assertiveness training, confronting negative thinking and boosting self-esteem. One of my previous programs, Mindful Women in a Busy World, was designed as an oasis for women to help them to have more clarity, connection and compassion for themselves and others in their life. I help adults heal from childhood traumas, especially if they were a victim of neglect or physical, sexual or emotional abuse.

Alongside mindfulness meditation, my practice integrates expressive therapies such as creative writing, photography, poetry, journaling, music and nature appreciation. These outlets for thoughts and feelings have been highly effective for some of my clients. If this is of interest, we can develop your creative talents towards better appreciation of your own self-worth and self-fulfilment.

I also help those with health issues, such as chronic fatigue, immune disorders and dermatitis. These can make even the most basic of tasks a challenge and causing deep psychological strain. Integrating CBT and mindfulness practices into your life can be a highly effective way of overcoming these challenges, something my approach is well suited for. I’ve had extensive experience with helping my clients improve self-esteem, changing negative thinking by learning to control overwhelming emotions, anxiety, depression, PTSD, childhood trauma, body image overeating, co-dependency, social (and other) phobias.

For many years my main focus has been working with children adolescents and adults with neuropsychological problems such as ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder. I am currently very keen to assess and work more with adults who have ADHD as they have often suffered needlessly not knowing they have a treatable condition.

I specialise in working with parents and for 5 years ran a very successful program with the NHS called New Perspectives on Parenting. If you have difficulties understanding and communicating with your child, I have a series of evidence-based techniques for overcoming the difficulties of parenting.

Though my practice is easily accessible from Central London, South West London and the surrounding areas, some of my clients may find it can be difficult to reach me, due either to their health problems or simply living too far away. When this occurs, I offer Skype sessions so the client does not have to travel far.

Whatever your situation, as we all face challenging circumstances and times of upheaval, I am here to support you. If you decide that you would like my help, I will work with you in a non-judgmental, honest and respectful way to help you make those difficult changes.
